While the majority of the industry tries to convince everyone that single-player is dead, here is a game that not only disproves that, but crushes all of its multiplayer competitors in both sales and praise. 3rd, it in no way comes close to the praise and accolades of Fallout 4. And while Black Ops 3 has done very well for itself as of its launch on Nov.

A recent example can be found when comparing Fallout 4 to its closes release rival, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 in Black Ops 3, the single player done away with completely, instead featuring a 4-player cooperative story campaign was lackluster and ultimately a sideshow, as the game leaned more heavily on its excellent multiplayer to carry the game. In many ways, the game is more akin to a good book, one that you can read by yourself, project yourself into its story and world and walk away from with ultimately a more fulfilling and enjoyable experience, rather than the endless twitch-shooter forgettable and overtly-competitive multiplayer matches found in other games. The game is a strictly single-player experience through and through, choosing instead to focus on telling a compelling narrative and featuring exciting set pieces as well as random and unique encounters across a living open world, rather than chase after the multiplayer crowd with no narrative and endless small, linear competitive map packs and weapon skins. “Screw that noise,” is the message Bethesda delivers with Fallout 4.

Industry leaders such as Crytek CEO Cervat Yerli has even stated their desire to abolish the single-play experience entirely, and bring about a future where no one is alone and everyone is connected and socializing, under the ever-watchful eye of a big-budget corporation. For years, the AAA Video Games industry has been steadily moving away from single-player-only experiences, choosing instead to either tack on generic multiplayer elements or focusing solely on multiplayer gameplay.
